Bentonite, a supremely commercial ingredient, is a naturally occuring rock which has green and dry compressive strength, absorption, hydration, swelling, viscosity, thixotropy, coagulant, detoxifying, strong retention, strong soil activator, special rheological and high clumping properties. Bentonite is a clay mineral predominantly consisting of mineral Montmorillonite mixed with some related minerals like Nontronite and Beidellite. These are three layered Aluminosilicate with molecules of water between layers. For natural Sodium Bentonite, exchangeable sodium cations are predominant, rather than other cations like calcium, magnesium etc. Similarly in Calcium Bentonite, calcium cations are predominant. In fact in all Bentonite available in the world, the sodium variety has high swelling and gelling properties along with good viscosity and liquid limit.
The Bentonite found in the Kutch region of India is of igneous origin. It was formed millions of years ago, possibly from the volcanic ash falling in stagnant saline water in semi-arid conditions. Due to the natural characteristics of these particular volcanic ashes, the chemical composition of this Bentonite is somewhat different from the Bentonite available in the rest of the world. Most of these deposits are of natural sodium Bentonite with higher iron content which gives them their darker colour. Due to very fine particle size, this Bentonite shows extra-ordinary swelling capacity and bonding powers. These differences mean that the Bentonite finds the most number of uses in various industries throughout the world.

Bentonite Industrial Usage
Oil & Gas Industry
Bentonite clay is used in vertical drilling fluids to increase viscosity and filtration control. This mineral is also ideal in drilling fluids because it expands when exposed to water. This expansion helps down hole formations to be sealed from invading drilling fluids. It also removes drill cuttings and lubricates the cutting head. Due to the special higher mud yield, less quantity of Bentonite is consumed for the same standard mud. We manufacture High yield Bentonite as per Indian Standards (IS), American Petroleum Institute (API) and Oil Companies Material Association (OCMA) Standards.
Drilling mud (gel) is crucial in the extraction of drill cutting during the drilling processes. Drilling mud (gel) is a major component in well drilling process. Another conventional use of bentonite is as a mud constituent for oil and water well drilling. Its roles are mainly to seal the borehole walls, to remove drill cuttings and to lubricate the cutting head.
Bleaching Earths
The bleaching process is removing colouring pigments such as chlorophyll and carotene and purifying the fats and oils. The method is by adsorption of color producing substances on an adsorbent material. Bleaching Earth is used as bleaching adsorbents which bleaches oil without altering the chemical properties of the oil. There are many different types of edible oils that need to be treated, and the most appropriate bleaching earth to do the job depends on a number of factors, including; the type of oil, the type of refining utilized, the refining conditions, and the desired quality of the fully refined oil.
Foundry & green sand
Bentonite is traditionally being used as binder in Foundry, which develops excellent binding strength to greensand mold in iron and steel casting. It has good Thermal stability and good bond development properties with easy mulling and excellent shakeout characteristics leading to good surface finish of the castings.
Our Bentonite can be used for greensand molding applications including Arpha lines, High pressure Molding lines with flask and without flask. The Mixing ratio will be dependent on the sand quality, fineness and impurities which plays a vital role in mold strength. High purity material, less sand content as fine powder. Better shake out property, low consumption. Engineered GCS and WTS ensure, initial low consumption and very less rejection.
Iron Ore Pelletization (IOP)
Bentonite selectively mined and processed for the application of Iron ore palletization. It is one of the most effective and economical binder for pelletizing iron ore. The process of pelletizing involves conversion of iron ores into uniformed sized iron ore pellets which are used as feed material in blast furnaces either for pig iron production or Direct Reduction Iron (DRI). Owing to the uniform size of the pellets, with purity of 63%- 65%, it results into faster reduction and high metallization rates.
It maintains excellent binding strength throughout the process of before and after firing of pellets.
Fertilizer
Bentonite is widely being used in fertilizers industry manufacturing DAP, NAPK and Sulphur fertilizers. It improves the fertility of the soil, enhances microbial activities and keeps grain dry and free flowing with uniform suspension of active ingredients. It is economical and eco-friendly solution to improve the yield of the crops and retain soil nutrients for longer duration.
Used as filler.
Used coating over urea, DAP and other nitrogen based fertilizers. Used as carrier of micro nutrient and pesticide used as binder of several organic manure.
Water Proofing/ Pond Sealing/ Geosynthtic Clay Liners (GCLs)
This product is for excellent Thixotropy properties, Super Viscosifier, Best suspension agent, Good Filtration control and High yield in water. This grade is available in Powder and Granules with tailor made specifications. Bentonite finds its applications in Geosynthetic Clay Liner which is widely used in Municipal Solid Waste Landfills. Geosynthetic clay liner is a woven fabric-like material used for the lining of landfills. Because of a very low hydraulic conductivity of Bentonite, it is used exhaustively in Geosynthetic clay liner.
Bentonite is a naturally occurring clay due to its swelling property act as an sealant and blocks the water passing through it. It swells 15-20 times more than it weight providing very effective and cost efficient sealing without polluting the water. It can be used for pond sealing, mineral exploration site holes, well sealing, dam sealing etc.
Cat Litter
Bentonite is an ideal base for clumping cat litter because of its ability to absorb moisture and liquid (urine).
